Octophant

I have been meaning to brag about a recent purchase. Well, not so recent. The purchase is a large, beautiful, screenprint of an octophant by Phineas X. Jones. Pretty…. The photo really does not do it justice. (UPDATE: Due to my moronic ability to muck up backing up - this photo no longer exists: see http://www.octophant.us/octophant3.php to see what the print looks like.

Skulltopus

Urbanomic’s Collapse IV reportedly contains a skulltopus (you will need to scroll down the page). The volume itself sounds intriguing:
Collapse IV features a series of investigations by philosophers, writers and artists into Concept Horror. Contributors address the existential, aesthetic, theological and political dimensions of horror, interrogate its peculiar affinity with philosophical thought, and uncover the horrors that may lie in wait for those who pursue rational thought beyond the bounds of the reasonable. (Urbanomic, 2008)
I have desperately tried to avoid anything that resembles philosophy as an ex-fling used it as a weapon to bludgeon me with (but only figuratively). Maybe five years is too long to avoid something out of spite (well that, and a fear of big, obtuse sentences). I am certainly waiting for my copy with a mixture of trepidation and excitement.

CrashOctopus

Some lovely gouache and pencil cephalopod art by Meg Lyman. She also has a blog CrashOctopus: An Ode to Art and Beer. Both art and beer are subjects close to my heart I recommend you go check it out. (Via Squid.us)

SquidSquid

There is a 698kg squid building a website at squidsquid.com. Really. According to this website my squidname is michelle the gelatinous mollusc. Except that I am a goldfish. I am confused. Probably why I am a goldfish. This will make more sense after you visit squidsquid.
